My First Frankened Polish!

12 Aug

I think this is... Grupule? lol

Yay my nails are growing!

I really love the little sparkles!

O...M....G. Love.

Please excuse the poor state of my cuticles, they need some serious lovin’ ASAP! But isn’t this polish great! I’ll post later about my adventures in frankening, but I just wanted to share this in the meantime! Let me know what you think!

NOTD: OPI Grape…Set…Match

9 Aug

I tried to capture the crazy awesome blue flecks in this beauty, but what little I got doesn’t communicate how AMAZING this polish is. I don’t like purple anything usually. Especially not purple nail polish. But I LOVE this one and I’m so glad I got it! The formula is flawless and the color is so amazing in real life.

Polishes Used (In Order):

1 coat of Beauty Secrets Base Coat

2 coats OPI Grape…Set…Match

1 coat Seche Vite Top Coat

FOTD: Yellow, Black and Purple

9 Aug

No, I’m not describing the colors of a bruise in the title. It’s my FOTD (more of a quick Eye of the Day since I didn’t have time to grab a full face shot…) using Sugarpill and Urban Decay. ❤

Products Used:

Eyes:

Too Faced Shadow Insurance Candlelight

Sugarpill Buttercupcake (Patted on with a flat brush to pack on the vibrancy)

Sugarpill Bulletproof (outer 1/4 of lid, crease)

Urban Decay Flash (Blended over the black, pulling the purple up a little farther past the crease to smoke it out and give the yellow a subtle purple contrast)

Urban Decay Virgin (brow highlight)

Tarte EmphasEYES High Definition Eye Pencil in Black (waterline)

And…. NO MASCARA! Oops. I was in such a hurry to get to work I forgot to put it on. :/ Extremely unfinished looking eye makeup was the result.

BUT I do usually use Urban Decay‘s Cannonball mascara. It is amazing!

NOTD: China Glaze Frostbite

With Flash

Without Flash

China Glaze Frostbite

You can see how different the polish looks with/without flash. In real life, the Flash one is more color-accurate, but the pic without flash is more finish-accurate if that makes sense. Imagine that blue glow, only without the strange looking frosty shimmer. The camera catches the shimmer that makes the blue shift so epically and makes it look like it’s frosty, which it absolutely isn’t. It’s such a complex, amazing blue. Definitely an all-time favorite!

Polishes Used (In Order):

1 coat of Beauty Secrets Base Coat

2 coats China Glaze Frostbite

1 coat Seche Vite Top Coat

Inspired By… Tron: Legacy – Quorra

3 Aug

Quorra

I read an article online that said Tron:Legacy was not considered a successful sequel. To that i say: “…WHAT?!” *safety off, gun cocked* “What exactly wasn’t successful about this sequel?”

Haha, just kidding. 😀

But it’s no joke that I ❤ Tron:Legacy. I haven’t seen such a visually stunning and all-around satisfying movie in a long time – I saw it at least 5x in theatre, even driving over 45 minutes to see it at the gigantic IMAX screen (Over 2 stories tall!). The MAKEUP in that movie! The makeup artist for Tron also did the makeup for Sucker Punch (Ah, now it all makes sense!), and you can find all of her amazing info (and face charts!) on her blog.

For this look I broke out my Sugarpill once again and created a black and blue smokey eye that *doesn’t* look like I got punched in the face. Win!

Quorra is super sleek in her appearance; edgy, futuristic, yet more human than the Sirens and other programs. Her skin is still glowy, but not as reflective as, say, Gem’s skin is. I wanted the focus to be on the eyes for this look. Quorra has a similar color scheme to her eyes, and I just love how it looks – black and blue with a definite wing creating the ultimate blended cat eye.

Since I was headed to the office for the day, I decided to tone it down by ditching the cat eye element and going for a more simple, rounded shape.

Have you ever seen so much curl in lashes?? I didn’t curl my lashes before applying Cannonball and they still look like that. Amazing!

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Eyeliner in Electric (outer 1/3 lower lash line. Blend it out slightly with Afterparty. Perfect!)

This look was inspired by some artwork of Pixie, a mutant in the X-Men comics.

NOTD: How I Met Your Magenta + I Lily Love You

Polishes Used (In Order):

1 coat of Beauty Secrets Base Coat

4 coats of Wet n Wild How I Met Your Magenta

1 coat of OPI I Lily Love You

1 coat Seche Vite Top Coat

While they are totally gorgeous, the flakies in I Lily Love You have a nasty habit of lifting at the ends and sticking up on the nail, even through top coat, so be really careful when you apply it so that everything lays flat. The careful application is totally worth it, as you can tell from the picture without flash!

NOTD: How I Met Your Magenta

30 Jul

It’s no secret I am obsessed with the TV show “How I Met Your Mother”. So when I saw this, I couldn’t resist. Seriously, I tried and couldn’t. It’s a medium pink with yellow-gold shimmer (see top picture). The formula is watery, so it took waaaaaay too many coats to get it opaque, but I don’t care. It was under $2 and it’s a gorgeous shade with an awesome finish. Be careful to make an even application, though! You can see in the top picture on my ring finger – a stray brush stroke resulted in uneven coverage and a thick polish line. Boo.

I still love it.

1 coat of Beauty Secrets Base Coat

4 coats of Wet n Wild How I Met Your Magenta

(No top coat. I really likes the satin finish on this!)

Inspired By… Avatar: The Last Airbender – Princess Yue

30 Jul

So I’m trying out a new series on here – “Inspired By…”! I’ve been looking for ways to get out of my mini makeup rut, and so I thought looking for inspiration in my favorite things would be fun. As I just finished watching the entire A:TLA, and the new series is coming out next year (Yayyy!), I decided to start there!

Princess Yue

First up is a look inspired by Princess Yue of the Northern Tribe!

Since Yue is a princess who is proper and obedient on the outside, but has so much going on inside, I thought I would go for something that looks pretty minimal when my eyes are open, but looks more dramatic when they are closed.

This is the eye look that I started with. I thought it was interesting to leave the gap in blue on the top lashline, transferring the blue instead down to the middle of the lower lashline. Doing that added something extra to the look, and made my eyes appear wider. Since Yue is super wide-eyed, I wanted to try to recreate that. I think it worked out well! But I felt like it needed something more… More blue! After all, she is from the mighty Northern Water Tribe. 🙂

In the cartoon, Yue has an obvious wing to her eyes, but I didn’t want to use any black liner for this. It felt like it would be too harsh. So I made the cat-eye effect with the shape of my shadow instead! I really like how this turned out! I think if I did it over, I would make the crease color extend to line up with where the blue on the lash line ends.

Face:

NOTD: Glitter Gradient

RAWR!

Lookit all the glitters!

Polishes Used (In Order):

1 coat of Beauty Secrets Base Coat

2 coats of Orly Luxe

1 medium coat of OPI Sparkle-icious (Burlesque collection) brushed over tip of nail, 1 sparing coat over the first tip coat and 1/4-2/3 of the nail. Use lighter strokes the further you get from your nail tip – this will make it fade into the gold nail polish and create the gradient effect.

1 coat Seche Vite Top Coat
